It’s funny that given their country’s history, D3 decided to release a World War II game, titled Unknown Soldier: Mokuba no Houkou, a third person shooter at that. Name me another third person shooter for the DS that came out of the Land of the Rising Sun? Can’t think of any? Neither can I.
Anyways, I share the same embarassment found in Bangai-O Spirits in Unknown Soldier, whereby I couldn’t get past the tutorial levels. It’s a shame because the game is actually quite good looking and boast a couple of unique features such as backing against the wall and the camera actually pans out to show you what’s going on around the corner. You can then shoot your weapon one-armed to take out anyone around the corner.
I don’t know whether it is a feature in the tutorial levels or one that is found throughout the game but your HP replenishes over time, when no one is shooting at you (or you shooting back).
The game, or at least the tutorial, takes place in a European town. Funny you should hear combat chatter and explosions as the only people in the level are your character and a bunch of respawning enemy soldiers. Mission objectives are given over your radio and I’ve so far made a hash of them, running around the level and getting particularly annoyed at an enemy respawn point that never seems to stop churning out foot soldiers.
Any hints here? By the way, if you are wondering how I got past the menus… they are all in English. The mission objectives are in Japanese though.
Interested? Unknown Soldier is available at Play-Asia. Click here for details.
And i thought i was the only one playing this game XD
Nope. That makes two of us. Can’t get past the tutorial. xD
Help? 😛
I think we hit the copy protection. *Winks
Hi there!
I also got this game a couple of days ago and I’m quite hooked to it. It’s not the best third person shooter for the DS but still a lot of fun! (by the way: there’s another WW2 based 3rd person shooter for the DS produced by a japanese company. It’s called “The Fuhyou – Butai de Shutsugeki! Senjou no Inutachi” and it was in fact developed by the same team that made “Unknown Soldier” – Tamsoft!).
Well anyway. Since you couldn’t get past the tutorial level I thought I’d give you a hint on how to finish it. First you have to follow all the checkpoints but I guess you figured that out by yourself. Then, when you reach the checkpoint behind the sand barrier where all these soldiers keep respawning and respawning without an end, you actually don’t have to kill them all. Instead you are told to use your grenades to destroy the transport vehicle to your left. Once you did so, the soldiers stop respawning and you may proceed to the next checkpoint. From there on it’s again just checkpoint after checkpoint until you reach the end of the tutorial level. At one checkpoint there’s a bridge in front of you with two soldiers on top. Take ’em down and you may proceed.
In the next mission you’ll get a rocket launcher, by the way 😉
