90’s or even 80’s kids would probably recognize an iconic music theme from a cartoon series which aired in the 1990s featuring the X-Men. Titled X-Men: The Animated Series, the show ran for 5 seasons and featured fan favourite characters such as Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee, Beast and Magneto (along with his Brotherhood of Mutants). I remember watching quite a number of episodes on national TV back then. X-Men: The Animated Series was a huge success and according to Wikipedia, had a viewership of over 23 million households!
The series is now set for a revival as Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97 is set to begin streaming on March 20th. The all-new series, which revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as the X-Men are once again challenged like never before and are forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. The new series continues where TAS left off, following the loss of Professor-X.
The voice cast includes TAS alumni reprising their roles including Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Lenore Zann as Rogue and George Buza as Beast. New are Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, JP Karliak as Morph, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.
