Dakar Rally, Rothmans Rally, Colin McRae…. there’s something about racing off-road on four wheels in arduous tropical or desert heat that seemed to capture my imagination at an early age. Having anglophile parents who have lived in the UK and been around Europe meant that rallying was mentioned on and off during conversations at home, and that the Subaru Impreza 555 was the first sports car that I recognized (and still desire till today).
Rallying intrigued me that whenever I had opportunities to visit Dubai, I made it a point to go dune-bashing in a 4X4 Mitsubishi every single time, just to get the slightest idea on how it is like to go racing in the desert. Those were fun times and yes, the pandemic does make yearning for international travel to be such a horrible feeling.
