Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics have just announced Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered, a collection featuring remastered versions of the beloved Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and its sequel. Set to launch on December 10, 2024, this collection will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
As someone who fondly remembers playing Soul Reaver 2 back in the day, I’m thrilled to see these gothic vampire classics getting a modern makeover. The remastered collection boasts upgraded visuals with higher-resolution textures, improved models and visual effects. Players will be able to toggle between the original and remastered graphics on the fly, which is always a neat feature for comparing the enhancements.
Some key additions that caught my eye:
- New photo mode for capturing those dramatic Nosgoth vistas
- Upgraded camera controls
- Option for modernized controls alongside the classic scheme
- Performance improvements
- New map and compass to aid navigation
- Previously unseen concept art and environments from “Lost Levels”
The collection is priced at $29.99, with a 10% pre-order discount available on PC and PlayStation platforms. No word yet on Switch pre-orders, but I’ll be keeping an eye out as that’s likely where I’ll pick this up for some portable vampire-slaying action.
It’s great to see Kain and Raziel’s epic conflict being introduced to a new generation of gamers. The original Soul Reaver games were landmark titles that pushed storytelling and world design forward for the action-adventure genre. With elements of Metroidvania-style progression and dimension-shifting puzzles, there’s a lot for modern gamers to appreciate here.
Are you excited to revisit the dark world of Nosgoth in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered? Let me know in the comments! And stay tuned for more coverage as we get closer to the December 10th release date.
