Remember that poor scholar in the opening cinematic in Diablo IV? The one that was sacrificed by Elias in order to complete the summoning of Lilith into Sanctuary? Well, it turns out that there’s a side quest involving looking for him and it’s given out by a Zakarum Priest, Father Dymus in Zarbinzet. The poor scholar, a curate in the Church of Light, goes by the name of Symon and it seems that several weeks prior to the ending of the main storyline of the game, he tagged along with a swordsman (no doubt Elias in disguise) in search of knowledge.
Similar to most other side quests in Diablo IV, this particular quest, titled “By Three They Come” is broken up into several sequential sub-quests that took me to through several different locales, mainly around the Hawezar portion of the map, but it’s still a huge area to cover. A purported refuge of Elias and Symon had a talking corpse (an Acolyte of Rathma who was hunting down Elias) in it. A subsequent sub-quest had me looking for a member of the gang who dropped out prior to the event from the opening cinematic.
She’s the one which led me to the chapel in the accursed ruins of Esret, and this was the chapel in which Lilith was summon. Here you’ll battle a Blood Echo of Lilith, not to mention finding Symon’s body. His tattered journal can be picked up and handed over to Father Dymus. For me this quest was an unexpected but pretty good closure for Symon. The back story revealed during this quest will make you feel even more sorry for the poor chap.
