Been a pretty busy release window for new games lately, and that’s being capped off by Team Ninja’s Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. I’ve not gotten about checking it out just yet, since I’ve just restarted playing a game that I’ve not touched in more than a decade. Yup, I’m replaying Fallout 3.
Long-time readers of this blog would know that I spent a lot of hours playing Fallout 3 when it was launched on the Sony PlayStation 3 and the game was awesome, albeit buggy. You can check out Tales of Capital Wasteland Wanderer which chronicles my character’s journey through the game.
This time around, I’m playing it on my current gaming rig, and it’s been pretty sweet so far despite a couple of crashes back to desktop. My style of play is to explore the Wasteland, do a whole bunch of side quests and end up being totally levelled-up for the main quest, while at the same time trying to be a pair of goodie-two-shoes. I’ve never gotten around playing a bad guy in the Fallout-series of games, somehow it feels unpalatable.
So far I’ve killed 3 Super Mutant Behemoths, a whole lot of raiders, collected about 5 bobbleheads and now am in the process of shooting up Evergreen Mills (the game crashed when I was doing just that).
I did finish Fallout: New Vegas more than a month ago and coming from that game, I do have an opinion on which is better of the two, and while this might be unpopular especially with Obsidian fans, Fallout 3 wins it for me.
I really like the colour palate on Fallout 3; New Vegas, aside from the titular neon-lit zone, looked very drab. Also, the invisible walls that were so prevalent on the Mojave Wasteland made for a greater appreciation on the freedom of exploring in Fallout 3. From a storyline perspective, Fallout 3’s search for the player character’s dad in the Capital Wasteland seems a bit more intriguing and personal, while New Vegas felt like a generic country western revenge story set in the Mojave Wasteland.
Regardless of which Fallout game though, these are basically time sinks, so be prepared for one heck of a ride with either of them,
What’s next? I’ll be checking out the new AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT, so fingers-crossed that the benchmarks will go well for these high-end GPUs. Now, if only I can get some more Bobble Heads!
