Here’s something that you don’t see everyday, a press release in your mail box regarding a collection of vintage game consoles and PC games going on auction, and it is a rather large collection consisting of 157 lots. The items will be going under the hammer this January 8th. Â he seller began buying them as a hobby with his son and continued to amass what is now one of the best collections of its’ kind, over many years.
One of the retro gaming relics in this collection includes the Sinclair ZX81 Personal Computer (Lot 107), the successor to the original Sinclair ZX80. Available in its original box, in its heyday in the early 1980s, this machine brought computing to the masses by selling over 1.5 million units, reducing production costs by moving all of the main functions onto only 4 silicon chips and being provided with only 1KB of RAM! This particular auction item carries a conservative estimate of £50-£70.
Lot 106 is the Timex Sinclair 1000 Personal Computer which was released in 1982, and it is the American version of the Sinclair ZX81. It differed from the original, in having 2K of RAM instead of 1K and was built by Timex at their Portuguese plant. It was the first sub $100 computer to appear in the USA. In its original box, it is estimated to fetch £50-£70.
The sale also includes the original Atari home video games console, an Atari VCS console released in 1977. This is the original 1977-1980 six switch model console, joy stick, paddle controllers and 12 games. It carries an estimate of £50-£70 (Lot 10). A pair of Atari 2600 / 7800 games including Titlematch Pro Wrestling and Skate Boardin’ also feature, with an estimate of £30-£50 (Lot 11).
Continuing the Atari theme is an Atari 2600 console, which was originally released in the US in 1977. The version in the sale is the 4 switch all black version UK version from 1982. In its’ original box, it has an estimate of £50-£70 (Lot 154).
A PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Edition console which was released in 2014 is a firm favourite amongst collectors. In its’ original box, it is estimated to fetch £500-£700 (Lot 9). An Xbox 360 Star Wars limited edition console is in a Star Wars R2D2 coloured case with C3PO coloured controller. It includes Kinect and a Star Wars game. Released in 2012, it is in its original box, appears and comes together with an Xbox 360 hard drive. It is estimated to fetch £100-£200 (Lot 34).
