VS. System was Nintendo’s old arcade system released back in 1984. I didn’t really much about it as much of the literature at home are mainly about home consoles (Winnie Forster’s excellent The Encyclopedia of Game Machines being one of them).
This morning’s press release email did call my attention to the old arcade console, as VS. Wrecking Crew, a Japan-only game released by Nintendo back in 1984 is now making the Nintendo Switch its new home, courtesy HAMSTER Co’s Arcade Archives collection.
In VS. Wrecking Crew, you play as either Mario or Luigi and break down designated walls to demolish buildings. The buildings however are home to monsters, and they wander around the floors to bother your mission, so you’ll need to watch out for monsters while quickly destroying the walls.
HAMSTER Co’s Arcade Archives series has faithfully reproduced many classic Arcade masterpieces. Players can change various game settings such as game difficulty, and also reproduce the atmosphere of arcade display settings at that time. Players can also compete against each other from all over the world with their high scores
VS. Wrecking Crew supports 1-2 players and is going for USD 7.99 on the eShop on May 1st.
