A reader emailed me recently asking about an old city-building title on the iPhone which was no longer available. Not wanting to disappoint, I recommended the one game that has been taking up game time on my iPhone this year: Pocket City, and the timing couldn’t have been better as the developers (Codebrew Games) have just recently introduced a very important update with two important features which extends gameplay on this year+ old title.
Fans of Pocket City would know that the city size is actually quite small and one can easily urbanise an entire map in a matter of hours. The new update allows for players to access the Region Map (which is centred on their primary city) where they can unlock locations to establish satellite cities. These locations have their own unique bonuses to offer should a city be established in one of them. Players can transfer money earned from their primary city to these satellite cities, allowing for a “jumpstart” for the new city.
The second feature in the update are Policies, which is one way to incentivise levelling up after you’ve built practically everything the game has to offer. Levelling up earns points which can be used to enact policies such as increasing household sizes or the amount of money a bank can hold, both of which when enacted go a long with increasing population and the amount of money a city can hold at any point of time.
With the endgame scenario properly addressed with this new update, it’s safe to say that Pocket City gets a new lease of life. If you haven’t been playing the game in a while, it’s worth jumping back in. And if you’ve not checked it out yet, do have a go in what’s widely acknowledged as the best city-building sim on the iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pocket-city/id1330451888
