What better way to kickstart the week by highlighting an interesting Kickstarter campaign, especially one that would appeal to both tabletop card gamers who play games such as Magic: The Gathering (MTG), World of WarCraft TCG, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and card collectors as well. Back in the day when I used to play MTG, I used to carry my main deck in a worn-out box (I remember it was the deck box from Mirage). We have come a long way since then and now the young chaps at Hedron LLC are aiming to come up with the DECA, an amazing looking handcrafted deck box, designed with premium woods and acrylics.
The base of the DECA is made using hardwood, and depending on the pledge amount (from USD 25 and above) , backers will get the DECA in different types of hardwood which Hedron has conveniently graded into three levels: standard, premium and exotic. The Standard hardwoods are any wood at the $25 tier, the Premium hardwoods are any wood at the $30 tier and the Exotic hardwoods are any wood at the $35 tier.
The other half of the DECA is made out of acrylic and backers get to choose the acrylic colour in which their DECA deck box comes in. Both sides are held together by a hinge on one side and a leather strap on the other side. That’s actually pretty cool. The box itself can fit up to a 100 standard-sized sleeved playing cards.
While Hedron has already hit its USD 5,000 goal with USD 9,098 pledged, they have some really interesting stretch goals that may warrant more backing to their project. They plan to add a new Custom Engraving pledge level at USD 10,000, and offer different leather strap colour options at USD 12,000 with many more over at their Kickstarter page.
