One of the more challenging turn-based strategy games we’ve ever got the pleasure of playing on the iPad has now gotten a free version so that newbies can have a chance to find out for themselves what makes Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land such a great gaming experience. Based on the writings of cult US horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, the free version lets players in on the first mission of the game, The Battle for Pudding Lane.
This mission in itself is no pushover and you can easily get a raise out of the challenge posed early on in the game. Subsequent levels are available for 99 cents a pop, but it would make better sense to put up the USD 4.99 for the full game once you’ve decided that the game, from Red Wasp Design, is worth spending money on (and I do recommend it). On both versions, players get the opportunity to purchase new DLC levels recently released for the game.
The game’s designer, Tomas Rawlings, has this to say: “We wanted to give players who might be interested in either the game or the concepts a chance to try out the title before they commit their hard earned cash to it. With the free version they can try the game out first and then if they like what they see, we’d hope they buy the full version.”
