If you’ve ever been to some of the coolest beaches in South East Asia, such as the ones in Krabi, Redang and even Bali, you’ll find beach boys peddling anything from snacks to even wakeboard rentals. It’s a pretty interesting occupation and I even know of a friend who took a sabbatical as a beach girl. Even if you are no where near a beach, French developers Chocolapps‘ latest iOS game Beach Boss lets you take on the role of a beach boy selling stuff to tourists on a beach.
In this top down 2D “endless-running” meets “Lemonade Tycoon” game, you get to collect coins from each successful transaction and it seems that one best seller to these vacationers would be doughnuts. The coins can be used to upgrade your beach boy and also to grab power ups to fend off the folks that you are “running” away from. These foes include life guards, police men, pets and even amorous tourist out to snag themselves a beach boy.
LOL. I really like the game’s presentation and the 2D graphics are colourful and spot-on. Aside from the patrons and the people chasing after the beach boy, the beach is a beautifully-realised place, with plenty of parasols, beach chairs, sections of asphalt walkways, seaweed, shells, waves coming in etc etc. You don’t need to have 3D graphics for this. The game comes with Game Center connectivity for both leaderboard and achievements.
Nine Over Ten 9/10 rates Beach Boss at a 4.5 out of 5. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The game is available for free on the iTunes App Store, check it out over here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-beach-boss/id527914310?mt=8
