Daedalic Entertainment’s critically acclaimed adventure game Edna & Harvey: The Breakout will be heading for the iPad in August 2012. According to Wikipedia, the game was created in the same vein as LucasArts’ pre-1994 games created using the SCUMM engine. The surprise 2008 hit received numerous awards (Winner of the 2009 Red Dot Design Award among others) and is one of the most successful adventures of the last ten years.
With the conversion for the mobile platform, the classic point & click adventure becomes a point & touch adventure and, along with its unique comic style – which is not only completely hand-drawn, but also lovingly rendered completely in 2D – will also bring its own, extremely twisted sense of humor to the Apple device.
At the beginning, young Edna wakes up in the padded cell of an insane asylum with no memory of her past. She doesn’t have the slightest idea how she wound up there, but one thing is for sure, she wants out! After all, she feels perfectly sane – and her talking stuffed bunny Harvey agrees completely. Together, they attempt an escape and, in doing so, meet their extremely bizarre fellow patients – from the man in the bee costume to the pseudo-Siamese twins Hoti and Moti. But Dr. Marcel, head of the asylum, will stop at nothing to keep Edna from escaping. What does he have planned for her? And why was her memory erased? Gradually, Edna regains her memory of the time before her detention in her cell…
The strange characters, starting with the protagonist Edna and her talking bunny Harvey, guarantee over 20 hours of twisted humor. The bizarre atmosphere quickly enthralls players through the game’s sometimes utterly insane characters and crazy dialogs. Unlockable achievements, German and English voiceovers, and Facebook integration offer players top-notch, all-out insanity.
