G5 Entertainment’s hidden object games for the iPhone rank as best and prettiest I’ve played on the iPhone and iPad. Their latest release, The Mystery of the Crystal Portal 2: Beyond the Horizon, carries on this tradition and does not disappoint. The thing about these hidden object games are that they are never straightforward and each level is like a large puzzle broken up into smaller pieces.
There are key objects in each level, in order to activate these objects, players will need to find certain items specified by that particular key object. Some key objects act as items to other key objects and it is imperative that players solve these objects first. This somehow gels well with the storyline and plot points (example: looking for the cogs that form a wheel that is part of a mechanism used to active a bridge) and it keeps things from becoming a straight-up boring pixel hunt.
As I mentioned earlier, the game is beautifully drawn, and despite playing on the small screen of the iPhone 3GS, the game looks really great. However, I do advocate the use of an iPad when it comes to G5’s games, the screen simply does the graphics justice. Fans of hidden object games or those who fancy a G-rated fun, engrossing game will find themselves right at home with Crystal Portal 2.
The game is now available on the App Store for USD 4.99: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-mystery-crystal-portal/id388929899?mt=8. 4 and a half out of 5 STARS. RECOMMENDED
