Another day, another jigsaw puzzle, but this time it comes with an aquatic twist and with a pretty cool special effect. 99Games’ Aqua Jigsaw will have you assembling jigsaw puzzles of marine life and scenery, while a ripple effect gives a feeling that you are doing all that underwater.

What I feel that makes Aqua Jigsaw a compelling addition to anyone’s casual games library on the iPhone/iPod Touch are the really beautiful and fascinating marine life pictures used as the basis for the puzzles. That goes to say that the graphics in this game is pretty much top notch.

By default, each picture is broken up into 12 jigsaw pieces and while these are not many, it’s perfect for bite-size gameplay. But if you desire a challenge, you can always increase the number of pieces to up to 24!

The ripple effect is a nicely done visual effect, and is triggered by touch. While this can be disabled, it’s fun to see the ripples come to life as you move your puzzle pieces around the screen with your finger.

The game increases its replay value and certainly belies its 0.99 cent price tag by allowing players to use pictures taken directly from the iPhone camera or from the photo albums to create puzzles. It’s pretty cool to assemble a jigsaw puzzle of the Petronas Twin Towers “underwater”.

Having said all that, Aqua Jigsaw is pretty much one of the best casual games out there on the iPhone, irrespective of price point. The game also sets the benchmark for other jigsaw puzzle games out there. Check it out over at the iTunes Store (click here).
