While most Nintendo DS gamers would first encounter “snaking” a.k.a “straight stretch turbo boosting” in Mario Kart DS, the technique was a staple in two of Nintendo’s games for the now defunct GameCube. The games in question are F-Zero GX and Mario Kart: Double Dash.
Check out the following snaking videos for these old school titles for they were released in 2003. First up is the vide for F-Zero GX (seriously I wonder how he was holding his gamepad)
And now onto Mario Kart: Double Dash’s snaking tutorial video:
While I was like many thinking that snaking was pioneered by Mario Kart DS, thanks to Retro Gamer, I know better. If you have not picked up a copy of Retro Gamer, do so now. It’s one of the best video game magazines (right there next to EDGE) out there, just like a colourful, picturesque encyclopedia of retro gaming goodness
